Der Spotlight-Sprachtipp: Wortschatz – new words

Every year, thousands of new words find a home in the English language. Keep track of the most important ones by looking at the cards in Spotlight magazine. We have a new word or phrase there in each issue. Start today by learning the one below.

“After getting doxed last month, I had to cancel all my credit cards and change my phone number and e-mail address.”

When you dox someone, you gather his or her personal information (address, e-mail address, phone number, credit-card numbers, etc.) and post it on the internet — probably with malicious intent (in böswilliger Absicht). The word is a phonetic respelling of “docs”, short for “documents”.

I hope you found today’s tip useful.

Best wishes,
